Last Friday marked a powerful moment of community action as Year 10 students from Kelvin Hall School, participating in their work experience placement, helped launch our latest initiative to tackle food poverty in Hull.

With their support, we successfully delivered food donation boxes to four key local partners: Haris & Co., Islam Foods, CK Foods (Processing) Ltd., and Hull Mosque. These well-established ethnic retailers and community hubs are essential parts of daily life for many residents, making them ideal hosts for this initiative.

The impact was immediate. As volunteers set up one of the donation bins, a shopper approached to ask about the project—and made the very first donation: a 20kg bag of rice. It was a moving moment that highlighted the incredible generosity and spirit within our community.

Alongside the bins, we’ve placed leaflets to spark conversation and raise awareness about a critical but often overlooked issue—food poverty in Hull, particularly the shortage of halal and culturally appropriate options in local foodbank offerings.

We hope that these donation points will not only encourage ongoing support from residents but also build greater understanding around the unique needs facing different communities in our city.

How to Help:
If you’re able, please consider visiting one of the above locations to donate food items, or reach out to us directly to support the initiative in other ways.
